COLON CANCER is the
2ND DEADLIEST CANCER
IN NEW YORK

With proper screening, it’s estimated that 60% of those deaths could have been avoided. And yet, 40% of eligible adults in New York have not gotten their screening colonoscopy. Do you really want to be a part of that sad statistic?

Your Screening
COLONOSCOPY

COSTS YOU $0

Most insurance companies cover the costs of routine, preventive colonoscopies, so there should be no out-of-pocket cost for you. So the question is, can you afford not to get a colonoscopy?

Colon Cancer is one of
the Most Preventable
and Survivable Cancers

A colonoscopy can detect and remove polyps, to help prevent cancer from forming in the first place. If colon cancer is detected early enough, it has a 90% survival rate. So why wait to get screened?

7 Myths About Colonoscopies

It’s not as bad as you think! Don’t let these myths about colonoscopies get in the way of your pursuit of a healthy, cancer-free life.

Myth #1: I’m not at risk for colon cancer.
FACT: Colon cancer is the 3rd most common cancer among men and women, but if you catch it early, colon cancer is highly treatable and survivable. If you’re 45-75 years old, you need to get screened.

Myth #3: Colonoscopies are too expensive.
FACT: The Affordable Care Act mandates that insurance cover 100% of the cost of your screening colonoscopy. And polyps can often be removed during this procedure without incurring additional costs.

Myth #5: Colonoscopies are dangerous.
FACT: Serious complications only arise in about 1 in 500 colonoscopies. If you compare that with the odds of actually getting colon cancer (1 in 20), it’s clear which is the higher risk to your safety.

Myth #7: Other methods of screening are just as effective.
FACT: Colonoscopy has the highest cancer detection rate (95%) and the highest rate of finding and removing polyps. Other methods rarely detect polyps, so they can’t stop cancer from forming in the first place.

Myth #2: I don’t need to be screened until I’m having symptoms.
FACT: In most cases, colon cancer starts as polyps that don’t present any symptoms. If you detect and remove those polyps through routine screening, you can stop colon cancer before it starts.

Myth #4: Colonoscopies are painful.
FACT: The procedure is relatively quick and painless. Colonoscopies last 30 to 60 minutes and are performed under sedation. Recovery is quick and most patients don’t even remember their procedure.

Myth #6: The prep is terrible.
FACT: It’s no pina colada, but prep options have improved a lot. At the end of the day, any prep is a small price to pay to find and prevent colon cancer.

Dr. Frado was amazing. I felt HEARD as a woman and that my issues and experiences were being considered. She listened to my concerns and gave me great advice. She answered all my questions and took time to understand my family health history. I went in to see her as a precaution and left reassured that nothing was wrong. Her suggestions on how to manage my health issues are already showing great results. Thank you, Dr. Frado!

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Yang. She asked all the right questions and even had a quick discussion with me about Covid which I really appreciate.

The staff is excellent and provided immediate attention to all requests. My visit was with Dr. Asher Kornbluth who is the best gastroenterologist in New York City and perhaps in the country. Dr. Kornbluth carefully monitored my condition and provided an extremely thorough and extensive examination.

Leon Kavaler is an outstanding professional but more than that, he is kind, courteous and helpful. He is always willing to go out of his way for a patient. After a 30 year relationship with another GI physician, I was fortunate to be introduced to Leon Kavaler. He is the best of the best. If you have any GI issues, run, don’t walk, to see him. You will not be disappointed. And if you need a procedure, his wife is a leading anesthesiologist. Try and see both together.
